Patients have IVF; which is a major treatment in infertility problems, when other methods of assisted reproductive technology have failed.
• First step is to stimulate the ovaries for development of multiple follicles. In this phase, follicular growth of the ovaries is provided.The aim is to increase the quantity of egg cells from 1-2 up to 10-15.
• When follicular maturation is judged to be adequate, approximately10-12 days, a specific medication is applied which causes ovulation about 36 hours after injection and retrieval procedure takes place using trans-vaginal ultrasound technique.
• Fertilization and embryo growth procedures are carried out in IVF Laboratories. One of the most important factors affecting the success of IVF process is the sterility of the laboratories and environment. In laboratories, fertilization is done with IVF (In-Vitro Fertilization) and ICSI (Intra-Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection) methods. More often, micro injection method is preferred because of higher fertilization rate.
• The embryos; which have been checked and controlled periodically after the fertilization; are transferred to patients uterus at 72. hour following the end of retrieval process. At 12. day after the transfer, a pregnancy test is done to check whether the patient is pregnant or not.
